Parallel view UI

From BibleTime

Jump to: navigation, search

The parallel view works quite well but other aspects than the view itself are not very user friendly. The user can not rapidly see which modules are in the view. The names are now visible in the window title bar but it is hard to look at the bar and connect the names to view columns, especially if the view window is maximized. The module names are visible as html text at the top of each column but they are scrolled away.

Also adding new buttons as now happens is not a good solution. Unfortunately the new KDE/Qt 4 seems not to be able to add line breaks to the toolbar but hides some buttons. Even in the old version the extra toolbar takes space unnecessarily. Also the same problem than with the title bar exists with toolbuttons: it's hard to locate the right button/module.

I suggest a header widget as a solution.

Parallel header

It has a column for each module (there are three in the picture, and user has clicked an "add" button opening a menu which has been ripped off from real BibleTime screenshot). One column has the module name and small toolbuttons for adding and removing modules. There could be a RMB menu which can have more possibilities like changing the module, opening it in new window etc. The user could even move the columns or drag a module from the module index into a column.
